Usain Bolt’s PUMA Basket Collaboration Salutes the Tokyo Olympic Games

Usain Bolt and PUMA have released a collaborative iteration of the classic Basket as a salute to the Tokyo Olympic Games. Bolt retired from competition in 2017, but he’s still the “fastest man alive,” a world record holder in the 100m and 200m sprints as well as the 4 x 100m relay, so his tribute to the Games is an undeniably fitting one.Because the Games are taking place in Japan’s capital, Bolt’s Basket is stuffed full of Japanese-inspired details. Its red-trimmed Formstrip shows off a gray cloud print, as does the heel piece. Japan’s flag is nodded to on the heel’s cut-out detail, and Japanese characters appear on the tongue as well. There’s plenty of Bolt branding to be seen too, namely his signature in gold on the lateral quarter and a gold silhouette of him performing his signature victory “point” on the heel, plus further embellishment on the inner half of the tongue tag. From a construction standpoint, the Bolt Basket is made of white leather and sits atop a white rubber midsole. The Games may end on August 8, but interested parties can purchase the Usain Bolt x PUMA Basket from the PUMA webstore now. Its MSRP is set at $80 USD.For more PUMA news, be sure to check out The Marathon Clothing x PUMA “The Miami Story” collection — a tribute to one of the late Nipsey Hussle’s favorite cities.

Japanese Patterns Adorn the Nike Air Max 95 “Smoke Grey”

The 90s era is still one of the most influential time periods for fashion and footwear, especially when it comes to Nike’s archives as many of its models that were introduced during this era still hold just as much, if not more popularity today. One of those silhouettes is the Nike Air Max 95 and it’s now being reimagined in a fresh “Smoke Grey” palette that carries heavy Japanese influence. While its blend of neutral toned uppers and vivid accents are striking, these aren’t necessarily the elements that give these specific kicks its appeal. Japan-inspired patterns are the center of attention here, and this can first be spotted out on the heels via the monochromatic Seigaiha graphics that are debossed into the reflective panel. These wave-like etchings also show face on the bottom of the kicks. If you take a peek inside the kicks, you’ll notice that floral patterns — which likely nod to the Asian country’s beautiful cherry blossom season — run the length of the insoles.Elsewhere on these kicks, the uppers bear gradient gray panels that get lighter as you transition from top to bottom and come contrasted with bright white tongues and overlays as well as bold red accents that fill in the Nike branding, lace loops and Air units.Nike Japan is releasing these come August 15 for ¥20,900 (approx. $190 USD).In case you missed it, first photos of the Nike Dunk Low “Midas Gold” have popped up.

Shawn Kemp’s Reebok Kamikaze II “Batik Blue” Supplies Two-Tone Style

Shawn Kemp’s Reebok Kamikaze II has appeared in an abundance of colorful makeups over the summer months, ranging from a Kamikaze II Low that looks straight out of the ’96 NBA All-Star Game to a Kamikaze II “Modern Beige” that’s equal parts hoops and hiking. Now, however, Reebok is taking Kemp’s shoe back to “basics” with a new “Batik Blue” colorway. Offering simple two-tone colorblocking that highlights its wavy upper detailing, the Kamikaze II “Batik Blue” packs plenty of ’90s hoops style into its build.Uppers use “Batik Blue” — a dark, navy blue-style shade — as the base on both the lateral and medial sides. This base is overlaid with swooping white leather patterns that zig and zag down from the top eyestay to the toebox and also wrap around the heel. Toeboxes are done up in white leather for contrast, and Reebok’s Vector branding appears in three places: the lateral forefoot, the tongue badge and the heel. Zig-zagging hits of white and navy continue down onto the midsole, which is loaded with classic DMX cushioning for a finishing touch of retro detail.Look for the Reebok Kamikaze II “Batik Blue” to release via the Reebok webstore on August 20. Its MSRP is set at $120 USD.If you’re searching for more hoop shoe news, be sure to check out official images of Aleali May’s upcoming Air Jordan 14 Low collaboration.
