Nike ACG Mountain Fly Low Is Back in “Flash Crimson” and “Brown Basalt”

Nike’s backcountry-geared Nike ACG label has readied a duo of new takes on the ACG Mountain Fly Low. Arriving in a bright “Flash Crimson” and a muted “Brown Basalt,” each colorway of the high-tech, low-top hiker draws from a different piece of the Hawaiian landscape — namely the island nation’s lava flows and igneous rocks. As expected, “Flash Crimson” is the more vivid of the two pairs. Its upper is done up in a vibrant, lava-inspired crimson red that’s accented with black heels, laces and trim, a sandy forefoot detail and a white midsole encased in a gum outsole. On the other hand (or foot), “Brown Basalt” uses an earthy brown top half with a lighter brown forefoot and similar black trim. There’s also slight touches of purple on the heel and collar — which serve a classic dash of hiking boot flair — plus a brown midsole and a black outsole. From a textile and technical standpoint, each pair uses a gridded ripstop-like material on its upper. There are no Swooshes, but there is a large ACG logo on the top of the foot and a reflective triangular badge towards the heel. Midsoles shroud a snappy carbon fiber plate in a thick cocoon of React foam and outsoles use an aggressive traction pattern for grip. ACG’s “All Conditions Means All Conditions” tagline is stamped on the insole to round off the look. The Nike ACG Mountain Fly Low “Flash Crimson” and “Brown Basalt” will release on Nike SNKRS come August 2 and each pair is priced at $180 USD. More styles will likely follow as part of ACG’s fall 2021 campaign.Elsewhere, ACG recently debuted the second iteration of the Air Nasu.

Nike Air Max BW “Black Violet” Flips a Classic

Nike’s Air Max BW “Persian Violet” is one of the most notable Air Max silhouettes from the first half of the ’90s, and now it’s getting remixed with a new “Black Violet” colorway. Retaining all the signature purple details from its OG counterpart but turning down the hues a few notches, the Air Max BW “Black Violet” supplies an undeniably elegant interpretation of Tinker Hatfield’s masterful 1991 design.Uppers are crafted almost entirely of supple black leather, which is adorned with a signature rubberized violet Swoosh. There’s also a line of white trim that sits atop the mudguard and runs from toe to heel. More violet appears on the neoprene tongue, the collar lining and the heel’s rubberized Air Max spellout graphic. Final dashes of branding are supplied by the tongue’s debossed Nike Sportswear hit and the insole’s Nike International graphic. Violet and black meet one more time on the midsole, and a stark black Air Max unit in the heel finalizes the look. The Nike Air Max BW “Black Violet” is available via Nike SNKRS Japan, and will likely arrive in the US soon. Its MSRP is set at ¥15,400 JPY (approximately $140 USD).Looking to check more Nike-related reading off your list? Have a look at three rugged colorways of Nike ACG’s new Air Nasu 2.

New Balance Plants Pops of Color on the 57/40

New Balance’s 57/40 has surfaced in a summer-ready three pack of color pop-equipped styles. Each offers a bright accent tone that draws from its tennis and running heritage, while also mixing in a simple base to provide maximum contrast.Interested parties have their pick of kingly purple, bright orange or sky blue embellishments, each of which are placed on the 57/40’s midfoot N logo, tongue branding and heel. The rest of the each shoe mixes white mesh toeboxes, quarters and throats with tan suede mudguards, midfoot overlays, eyestays and heel pieces. This marks an interesting middle ground for the 57/40 as past makeups have tended to be either copiously colored or entirely muted. Heel clips are presented in gray, and double-stacked midsoles inspired in part by the classic 574 supply their own mix of tan and white. Black rubber outsoles finalize the look. All three colorways from this crisp pack of New Balance 57/40s are set to release in Japan at retailers like atmos on July 23. The MSRP for each pair is set at ¥13,200 JPY (approximately $120 USD), inclusive of tax.If you want to learn more about the 57/40 — and its first collaborative partner — check out HYPEBEAST’s recent interview with Bricks & Wood founder Kacey Lynch about the Bricks & Wood x New Balance 57/40.
