Heron Preston Enlists Zellerfeld to Create 3D-Printed HERON01 Slip-On Sneaker

Heron Preston has debuted its first-ever fully 3D-printed sneaker, produced in collaboration with the emerging technology company Zellerfeld.Dubbed the HERON01, the slip-on sneaker continues to explore the world of 3D printing and sustainability. Thanks to it having no seams, stitching, glue, or other weak points, or being made from toxic glues and materials, the shoe can be fully recycled by Zellerfeld to create a shoe that can be turned into a new product, making for a circular product economy loop.Zellerfeld and Preston enlisted the footwear designer Mr. Bailey who helped to shape the design direction of the shoe, who then — within his Sunday Sketches work — showcased the progressive design features that dominate the HERON01’s aesthetic. For example, the pair is decorated with printed scales and textures that can be found on the feet of the Heron bird, while the sole unit combines a bird claw design with advanced footwear production concepts, which is exactly what Mr. Bailey showcased in his sketches.Low ankle cutouts make for a shoe that’s easy to put on and take off, while Heron Preston’s signature workwear inspirations have been filtered into the shoe via the chunky sole and threading elements that give it its unique look and feel. The result is something that look prehistoric yet futuristic at the same time — especially in the orange colorway that happens to nod to Preston’s signature color — as its upper is textured almost like rocks or the rough scaley skin of a creature from thousands of years ago.Interestingly, the shoe came about after Heron Preston saw an early prototype of a 3D-printed shoe by Zellerfeld. From there, WhatsApp conversations led to a collaboration that “explored design ideas beyond the traditional footwear design language that is often limited and similar due to construction methods.”Speaking on the shoe, Cornelius Schmitt, CEO, Zellerfeld, said, “Heron is a truly inspirational designer, and 3D printing will allow visionaries like him to reshape footwear for the better.” Preston added, “The HERON01 is just the beginning — with additive manufacturing, the potential is unlimited. I was able to design and print functional and evolving prototypes in hours  — with traditional manufacturing, this would have taken months. I can’t wait to print more shoes and updates.”The HERON01 will first drop on StockX via its “Campaign for a Cause,” allowing those who want a pair to enter a raffle by making a $10 USD donation. These proceeds will go towards Global March, a charity fighting child labor in supply chains. From there, winners can choose their standard size and use an iPhone to scan their feet to create a pair of HERON01’s that perfectly fit, at no additional cost or production time. Winners will also be entered into Zellerfeld’s Beta Program, allowing wearers to trade in worn shoes for reprinted and updated newer versions after this beta release.Available from October 5 on StockX, the HERON01 will also drop in a limited run on Zellerfeld’s site. Stomp Through This Season With Balenciaga’s Crocs Boot

This weekend, Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga took Paris Fashion Week by storm with its Spring/Summer 2022 showcase that aired a customized episode of The Simpsons, seeing characters decked in the latest collection. As expected, footwear was a hot topic yet again this season, serving up a new pair of grungey Crocs — but for those that don’t want to wait so long, fear not, as Balenciaga has opened orders for its Spring 2022 Crocs boot.Available in green, black, or grey, the Crocs boot comes straight from the house’s “Clones” runway collection and can actually be best seen in looks 16 and 18. Dubbed “Balenciaga Crocs 2.0,” the second official seasonal partnership with the brand follows on from its recently-dropped Crocs stilettos and the infamous platform pair from 2018.Here, the classic clog is transformed into a wellington-style boot, seeing the full EVA construction extend from a bulbous and raised sole unit into the clog shape before turning into a boot, which would rise to around the middle of your calf in height. Of course, classic elements such as the rounded toe and holes appear on the shoe, however, the latter has been filled in for a subversive aesthetic.Balenciaga’s moniker graces the top of the boot on the front and the outsole, while sizing has been debossed into the heel as per the brand’s signature design language that appears across its footwear line. The Balenciaga Crocs boot can be seen in all colors above and is available to buy from Balenciaga’s website now, where the shoe retails for $695 USD. The boot is also available regionally.Elsewhere in the footwear world, check out HYPEBEAST’s latest issue of Sole Mates. New Balance 1400 Arrives With a Cool “Steel Blue” Palette

There’s no question that New Balance is one of the strongest sneaker brands in the industry right now, and much of its success can attributed to its onslaught of lifestyle sneakers that it continues to launch. While its collaborations are more favored amongst the sneaker community, its GR family also provides a substantial amount of momentum for the Boston sportswear imprint. And to ring in the month of October, it’s introducing a fresh New Balance 1400 “Steel Blue” colorway.Standing out across the base layer of these kicks are suede overlays that attach to the heels, quarter panels and just around the toe boxes, all of which are dialed to its titular shade. Muted gray and creamy accents then follow suit, the former being applied to the mesh toe boxes while the latter disperses to the tongues and collars, as well as the heel’s overlays and molds. Elsewhere on these low-cut kick are tiny doses of baby blue that pour onto the “N” logos and the laces. Midsole units are done up with white backdrops while the toothy treading is drenched in black.Parties that are interested in copping can do so via Japan retailers like atmos for ¥33,000 (approx. $297 USD) come October 2.If you’re on the hunt for more sneaker news, AURALEE has teased its 2022 New Balance 2002R collaborations.
