You always remember your first pair of Jordans.
For some, it was when Michael Jordan was still on the court, putting in the work every night on the way to one of Chicago’s six NBA titles.
For others, it might have been during one of MJ’s early retirements, not knowing if another Jumpman model would ever be released.
Or maybe you got into sneakers years later and knew that Jordan retros were coveted additions to the collection, even though Mike hadn’t touched the hardwood in more than a decade.
I’m in the latter category. Growing up I had wide feet and was never comfortable in Nike kicks, so I gravitated towards other brands and conceded that I’d never be able to wear a pair of Jordans.
But once I started working at Finish Line, I figured I should just try a pair and see whether I had been wrong all these years.
So one February morning, I logged on and copped my very first pair of Jordans, the AJ 1 Retro High OG ‘Turbo Green.’ That pair featured weathered suede overlays in a Turbo Green shade atop a white leather upper.
When they finally arrived, I laced them up on foot and discovered they were a perfect fit, and it’s been downhill for my bank account ever since.
The latest AJ 1 colorway to hit the market gives me a little bit of nostalgia for that very first pair I bought.
