Nike’s revamped Air Max 1 Golf was revealed initially in late December to mixed reviews, with some golfers commenting they preferred the original sole to the reinforced “Big Bubble” Air Max unit. However, the Beaverton brand is forging ahead with the model nonetheless, unveiling its third limited edition iteration now in the past week. The AM1 G “Periwinkle” is the latest of that trio, arriving as the celebratory shoe for the springtime PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. Paying homage to the perennial flower known for its prominence in western New York, this rendition has a purple budding flower placed on the tongues as well as the insoles, while further purple accents are found on the eyelets and camo patterned outsole. A bright pink is also used for midsole, contrast stitching on the Swoosh and Nike Air Max logos. Neutrals dominate the upper for a nice interplay between beige and white, allowing the bright flowery tones to the come to the forefront. As with the AM1 G “US Open” and “Always Fresh,” keep an eye out for more information as we get closer to major championship season in golf. For other golf content, read up on how Burberry Golf conquered country clubs in the early 2000s.
