Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty’s Australian label Song for the Mute is about to break free from the realms of its IYKYK crowd as it steps into the world of collaboration, welcoming adidas Originals along for its Fall/Winter 2022 collection with its SUPERTURF “SFTM-001” in “Honeycomb.”The inaugural pair was first seen in Song for the Mute’s FW22 collection lookbook, styled on-foot alongside beautifully draped gray-dyed denim coats, silky double-breasted moments, baggy jeans, tie-dyed ensembles, and tracksuits (no word on these being collaborative or not, yet).Styling in the lookbook showed the versatility of the sneaker, but now thanks to a closer look, we can tell functionality and versatile attributes lie deep within the shoe itself. Taking the retro-informed SUPERTURF style, a pair kitted out with adiPRENE+, adiPRENE and Torsion comfort-stability-ensuring technology, we find a new reworking courtesy of the Aussie outpost. Here, a “Honeycomb” colorway has been applied alongside touches of white, black, and burgundy, coming onto the sneaker thanks to a mix of materials ranging from mesh to leather, suede to silky webbing for the Three Stripes and more. The latter component make fabric D-ring-like eyelets for the laces to thread through, while a striped webbing piece runs along the tongue for another hiking touch.Contrasting stitching on the heel cup sits alongside a “SFTM-001” tag on the flipside, while more zig-zag stitching can be found on the toe box too. Rounding out the pair is a heel piece that’s connected to webbing, once again ushering in a retro hiking-running vibe.Song for the Mute is dropping just 100 pairs of its first adidas Originals sneaker collaboration via the CONFIRMED app at 10 a.m. CST today for the APAC region only. An official global release date is yet to be announced.
