When Nike designer Sean McDowell first conceptualized the Air Max Plus, he was inspired by how palm trees swayed in the Florida evening breeze. Combining that inspiration with a vibrant orange and red color scheme, McDowell created a cult-favorite Air Max silhouette and built its most famous makeup, namely the Air Max Plus “Sunset.” It’s been 23 years since the “Sunset” was first released in 1998, but Nike Sportswear is keeping its legacy alive with a new “Reverse Sunset” makeup that provides a flipped take on the OG “Sunset” stylings.Where the original “Sunset” featured an ombre-style red and orange mesh upper with wavy black overlays, the “Reverse Sunset” uses a black mesh upper and moves the ombre orange and red fades to the overlays themselves. Red Swooshes add a little extra flair to the midfoot, and signature yellow TN badges — the embellishment that provides the shoe with its “TN” moniker — return on tongue and heel alike. Rubberized black mudguards and heel pieces add new texture to the mix, with white midsoles holding orange Air Max units and a red midfoot shank finalizing the look. The Nike Air Max Plus “Reverse Sunset” will hit retailers in the coming weeks. Its MSRP is set at $160 USD.For more Swoosh news, be sure to take a look at the Dunk High Rebel’s new “Varsity Maize” and “Summit White” colorways.Click here to view full gallery at HYPEBEAST
