Nike Expands Its Jackie Robinson Catalog With This Air Force 1 Low Colorway

Famous in the sports realm for breaking down baseball’s racial barrier and becoming the first African American to play in the MLB, Jackie Robinson is being celebrated once more thanks to another footwear initiative by Nike. In 2022, the Swoosh honored his legacy via a Dunk Low and Air Griffey 1 Cleat, and now the brand is adding an Air Force 1 Low “Jackie Robinson” installment to its repertoire. For this latest iteration, Nike designers outfit the kicks with a myriad of baseball-inspired details. The most noticeable is the red “42” hit that is positioned on the lateral heel which calls out his jersey number along with the exposed stitches that mimic a baseball and run down the heel. “Racer Blue” accent are thrown onto the Swooshes, Nike-branded heel overlays and the tongues, the latter of which swap out the usual Nike icons for the Brooklyn Dodgers logo. Laces enhance the sneakers with an inspirational element as they come printed with all-over “Change the World” spell-outs, and they arrive laced through copper loops. Lace deubres split between “1947” to represent the year he broke the color barrier on the left shoe and “1956” to salute the year he retired on the right. And to round everything off, the bottoms are done up in baseball diamond dirt-esque brown with black speckle details.Look for Nike and other retailers to launch these in the coming weeks for $120 USD.Elsewhere in sneakers, images of the Nike Air Max 1 Premium “Treeline” have appeared.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
