Just in time for Halloween season, Aetrex is adding some new tricks, treats, and tech to its tool bag by with the launch of Tootsie Augmented Reality (AR). The expansion builds on the brand’s Tootsie Foot Scanning program, introduced last year and featuring a friendly monster named Tootsie who guides kids through the process of getting their feet measured. (Tootsie software integrates seamlessly into Aetrex’s premium 3D foot scanners, Albert 2 Pro and Zoe Pro.
AR technology gives Tootsie new ways to interact with children and boost the fun factor when they shop. After a foot scan, kids can now don a Meta Quest 3 or 3S VR headset in store to see Tootsie come to life. They can explore the character’s virtual world and even join him in a dance-off. (Headsets are available for purchase as part of the Tootsie package.)
For retailers, the Tootsie AR package provides an effective way to boost engagement with families through offerings like a digital photobooth where young shoppers can take pictures with Tootsie, branded giveaways like Tootsie-themed trading cards, in store signage, and more.
“The kids’ footwear market reached $55.5 billion in 2024, yet most children are still wearing the wrong shoe size,” states Aetrex CEO Larry Schwartz. “With the Tootsie Program, we ensure kids get proper sizing from their very first scan, helping to prevent future foot problems. At the same time, the Tootsie AR package transforms shopping into an engaging experience that kids look forward to, creating destinations where families want to return every six months or so as kids grow.”
Aetrex Adds Kids Orthotics
To complement the AR launch, Aetrex is introducing Kids Orthotics designed specifically for growing feet. Priced at $49.95, the products feature superior cushioning, shock absorption, and arch support to keep youngsters’ feet healthy and prevent injuries. An AeroCell base reduces stress on joints, while a kid-friendly soft top cover with a picture of Tootsie makes them appealing.
The Tootsie 3D foot scanning program is now in more than 1,300 retail doors worldwide, and retail partners are already seeing a positive impact. “People come into our stores specifically to see Tootsie and have a memorable experience,” says Melissa Blandford, SVP at DSW.
