It’s fitting that John Fluevog—a brand known for its avant-garde, artistic footwear design, with a founder who has advocated for creating “a movement of care, love, and encouragement”—would be passionate about supporting fellow artists. To that end, the company established an annual Fluevog Artist Grant in 2017, a $10,000 fund to promote creative growth and development for up-and-coming talent in the art world.
Now the company is putting an additional flourish on its program with the first-ever Fluevog Artist Grant Exhibition, taking place November 14th at Fluevog Brooklyn. The one-night in-store exhibition will showcase photographs by 2024 grant recipient Murugi Thande, a Kenyan-American visual artist specializing in photography and filmmaking. Prints of photos by Murugi—who used her grant winnings to travel to Kenya to complete a visual narrative exploring her mother’s hometown—will be available for purchase in-store, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Huru International, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls across Africa.
The 2025 Fluevog Artist Grant went to Studio Rat founders Emily Allan and Dom Di Libero to support their project “Lamination 1.0,” a giant luminous canopy made from hundreds of reclaimed plastic tiles, presented last month at the contemporary art exhibit Nuit Blanche Toronto 2025.
