Ask the average sneakerhead about the iconic high-top basketball shoe that dropped in 1985, and they’ll probably tell you it’s the Air Jordan 1.
They wouldn’t be wrong, but the AJ1 isn’t the only one.
Perhaps less flashy, but certainly no less important, is the Nike Dunk High, a mash-up that drew from the designs of the Air Jordan 1, the Air Force 1 and the Nike Terminator.
The Dunk High started its life as a sneaker for NCAA hoopers and hoops fans alike, originally dropping in a dozen colorways meant to match college basketball uniforms.
The sneaker has certainly lived a full life over the past 35 years, from the hardwood to the half-pipes of southern California skateparks and into the collections of sneakerheads and hypebeasts worldwide thanks to the collaborations and storytelling of Nike SB.
The Dunk has been enjoying its time in the sun over the past couple of years, arriving in colorways ranging from mild to wild in low- and high-top forms.
Now, to kick off 2021, the Swoosh is bringing the iconic basketball shoe back in retro form with a colorway that’s sure to have LA natives and Laker fans alike opening their wallets.
The Nike Dunk High ‘EMB,’ which stands for “embossed,” is dressed in the legendary colors of the Lake Show.
They feature black canvas uppers with purple leather overlays and a gold Swoosh, while Nike branding is embossed on the heel counters in Lakers fonts.
So whether you’re a LeBron James fan or you’ve been rocking with LA since the Showtime days, these Dunks are for you.
