Before you think there’s an age limit to be working retail, think again. Quick storytime: I graduated from college in 2013 and was kind of stuck between physical therapy/personal training and my love for sneakers. I ended up working at Finish Line (Castleton Square Mall) for two years where I learned a plethora of things that helped me become a valuable contributor at our HQ where I’ve spent the last 6 years. Passion over paychecks and it paid off.

When I started with Finish Line I had no clue the many opportunities that would come from working in-store. Not only have I been able to grow my career with this company, I’ve made lifelong connections/friendships, found new interest, and gained self confidence more than ever. Those are the things that mean the most to me and I’m excited to continue to grow with this company! This is where true leaders are made!

Eventually you’ll end up where you need to be, with who you’re meant to be with, and doing what you should be doing.” This quote embodies my time at JD Finish Line so much because who would have thought I would be in the position I’m in currently with this company. Starting off at Amazon as an Area Manager to then leaving the company and not finding a job for 4 months to starting off at Finish Line as an store associate and working my way up to an Assistant Store Manager is a great feeling and I’m ready for the next opportunity within!

Who would’ve ever thought I would be here right now! A store manager at 21 years old, achieving more than I ever intended. Forced to get a job, I walked into Finish Line, with my head held high. But only because I had to, or I would hear a never ending story from my parents. Whom I now thank for their push! I was hired in as cashier, and within a day got moved to the sales floor because we were understaffed. I was so excited, I didn’t have anything else to do! As time went on, I eventually became a supervisor, which was a shaky transition considering I had gotten so comfortable always being the sales associate who just knew how to do ALMOST everything, I actually had to lead others! But I was blessed to have mentors through every transition, they have helped me to become the leader I am today. Before becoming a store manager, I was presented with the opportunity to expand my career with the JD Finish Line Academy! This opportunity opened my eyes to the numerous areas of development I sometimes shied away from and how to properly tackle them in and out of store. I got to hear great knowledge from department heads and Wayne Davis himself. It was a great experience and the opportunity of a lifetime! I am now connected to JD for life, which is an honor because I get to be a part of the growth and excellence we always show!
