Sun-kissed beaches, celebrities…and now a Birkenstock store. Malibu, CA, is the site of a new retail shop run by the 252-year-old German brand, which famously got its first foothold in the U.S. in the Golden State. The store is Birkenstock’s third in California and its 24th in the U.S.
Located at Cross Creek Ranch—a new retail and dining destination in the Malibu Civic Center, the central downtown district—the new store is light and airy, befitting the coastal setting, with natural materials like cork and leather integrated throughout an uncluttered interior with a large abstract sculpture by local artist Rogan Gregory at its center.
The store will offer a range of the brand’s women’s, men’s, and kids’ sandals, clogs, sneakers, shoes, and boots, as well as the Birkenstock Care Essentials collection of foot and body care products, including a new plant-based nail polish line.
“For decades, Birkenstock has had a strong community of fans in Malibu so bringing a store to life in the area felt very natural,” says David Kahan, president of Birkenstock Americas. “But finding the right location mattered. The thoughtful approach to design, landscape, and community at Cross Creek Ranch reflects many of the things we value as a brand. It’s the perfect place to bring a distinctive Birkenstock retail experience to life, and we’re excited to open our doors and deepen our connection to the Malibu community.”
