For 45-plus years Baffin has lived up to its Canadian roots as a leader in performance boots built to withstand the most extreme winter conditions. Its reputation is as solid as an iceberg. But weather patterns have changed in recent years, as has the length and extremity of the seasons. The brand is keeping step with a multi-season collection of trail-ready footwear suitable to a variety of terrains, levels of adventure, and warmer weather.
“End users will now have a product to help extend their hiking seasons when the weather swings from wet to freezing or warm to cold,” says Mark Hubner, senior vice president. “The new Terrain program is a natural next step for Baffin.”
The collection debuts with two styles, Bruce Mid for men and Elora Mid for women (SRP: $250). They are the culmination of more than 10 years of development capped off by Baffin’s Real-World Tested process, conducted over two years, three continents, and five extreme expeditions. These included the End-to-End Project: Bruce Trail Adventure, a rigorous product testing expedition that spanned more than 936 km along the Bruce Trail, Canada’s oldest and longest marked footpath. Prototypes and development samples were also tested across South Africa, Iceland, and the Appalachian Trail. In June 2025, the capstone expedition to Alaska saw the final market-ready boots challenged in the elements.
“Our Real-World Tested expeditions gave us the chance to test, refine, and push innovation every step of the way,” Hubner explains, noting that prototypes went through several iterations before reaching the final product. “Alongside improved fit and comfort was the update to our existing speed-lace system and incorporating a heel-secure locking mechanism designed for those moments when you’re descending and need your foot locked in place. It ensures maximum stability and allows the outsole to grip the ground exactly as it should.”
The Terrain Collection features a mid-height leather/nylon upper offering both durability and flexibility. A comfort-padded top collar enhances support around the ankle, while a speed-lace front ensures a customizable and secure fit. A pull loop at the back assists with quick entry, and low-impact B-Tek Eco materials support more sustainable construction. Inside, a Fixed-Fit multi-layer inner boot system delivers all-season comfort and protection. The system includes a breathable Thermawick lining for improved thermal regulation next to the foot, a waterproof breathable membrane with booty construction for reliable weather protection, and form-fitting B-Tek Foam for lasting comfort. The premium rubber outsole features a self-cleaning, multi-directional lug tread that grips uneven surfaces, while IceBite Grip technology provides enhanced slip resistance on icy surfaces compared to standard rubber. A TPU shank adds torsional rigidity to reduce foot fatigue and maintain stability on uneven ground. Lightweight cushioning and thermal protection are delivered through a PU midsole. A TPU external heel counter equipped with a snowshoe ledge adds structure and compatibility for snow-covered exploration.
Hubner expects outdoor enthusiasts to warm up to the Terrain Collection. “We’re connecting more directly with hikers who want gear that’s innovated for today’s trail realities,” he says. “These are individuals who want confidence underfoot, durability in every condition, and comfort that lasts from trailhead to summit. It’s an extension of who we’ve always served, with a sharper focus on multi-season hiking performance.”
The Bruce Mid is available in sizes 7–14 (including half sizes 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, and 11.5) in black, brown/black, and burnt orange/black. The Elora Mid is available in sizes 6–11 (including half sizes 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5) in black, brown/black, and powder blue/black. In the coming months, a lower-cut style (both men’s and women’s) will be added to the Terrain Collection, followed by a Spring/Summer ’26 introduction of a lighter-weight hiking boot collection with increased breathability and an outsole designed for trail conditions from spring through fall.
