Awake NY has had themselves quite the year when it comes to footwear collaborations as it has already teamed up with the likes of Reebok, ASICS and Merrell. And now Angelo Baque – the streetwear label’s founder — is ramping up the brand’s joint initiatives even further by linking up with Vans for an east-meets-west coast trifecta of Sk8-Hi colorways.“It’s exciting that Awake NY can serve as a conduit between the East and West Coasts. A partner like Vans truly complements us, and vice versa,” Awake NY founder Angelo Baque said. “As with all our collaborations, the community is the foundation. We’re looking forward to working with Fresh Youth Initiatives, and Children of Promise, NY. With the power of Vans, Greenhouse, and Foot Locker behind us, we’re truly able to make a difference.”For this three-piece collection, Awake NY takes the Anaheim skateboarding imprint’s classic checkerboard pattern and applies Batik swatches — a wax-resistant dye that fashions the shoes with a more worn in aesthetic. Other elements that the NY-based brand tosses in here are borders around the jazz stripes as well as Awake NY spell outs that are debossed into the forefoot. Three colorways are involved in this collection including vibrant green/blue and blue/red iterations along with a slightly more understated pink/black iteration.Peep a closer look at the Awake NY x Vans Sk8-Hi assemblage that’s been modeled here above by Westside Gunn. The release date is slated for October 15 via Awake NY, on Greenhouse on October 20 and at Foot Locker on October 22. Retail price is set at $90 USD a piece. In case you missed it, Vault by Vans recently teamed with Nigel Cabourn for a military-inspired Fall 2021 capsule.Click here to view full gallery at HYPEBEAST
