Autry Is the ’80s U.S. Tennis Sneaker Brand That’s Making a Comeback

Autry, the American brand that specialized in performance tennis sneakers in the 1980s, is back for Fall/Winter 2021. You may not have heard of Autry, but back in the day it — and its campaigns — progressed the tennis footwear industry, significantly distinguishing its array of shoes from other sneakers of its time as ones that were technical and geared towards professional playing, capable of making you perform better in the sport. It’s known for a handful of models, namely the CLC, and it pioneered the need for a good insole with its ActionSorb insole. Now, Autry introduces the Medalist and Dallas in a variety of colorways, compositions, and in both high and low top offerings, while maintaining the one thing that makes the brand instantly recognizable: “the shoe with the American flag.”The Dallas is a smooth leather low top pair with exposed seams and features everything from a 2.5-3.5cm sole instep to a 2cm-high insole, a padded ankle collar, and a leather and terry lining inside. Coming in colors from white to red and white, blue, green, black and more also intersected with white panels, there’s a style for everyone, while a vintage-esque yellowed sole unit makes the shoe look as if it came right out of the ’80s.As for the Medalist, you can choose from highs or lows. It’s a slightly simpler shoe, but appears in a wider array of colors — including one with “Game Set Match!” written on the sole unit. Prices range from £107 GBP to £144 GBP (approximately $142-$192 USD) and all the styles can be bought online now, with a handful to view above. In other news, Pharrell’s adidas Humanrace Sičhona “Yellow” is dropping today.Click here to view full gallery at HYPEBEAST
