adidas Originals continues to ramp up its sustainable efforts with its new “Plant and Grow” initiative, and the first to come out of this new program is the Superstar Mule.Taking the original shell-toe design from 1969, adidas Originals cuts the rear section of the shoe off to create a slip-on mule design. With this in mind, the new shape lends itself well to becoming the perfect indoor-outdoor pair for the summer months, which is fitting giving adidas Originals’ “Plant and Grow” moniker. The Three Stripes position the shoe alongside the guerrilla gardening movement of the ’70s — the same period of the Superstar’s height — in turn reimagining the classic sneaker for a slower-paced lifestyle and one that values sustainability, eco-friendliness and vegan attributes. As a result, adidas Originals’ Superstar Mule in “Collegiate Green/Easy Yellow” is made using a vegan alternative to leather, while a brown speckled sole unit crafted from rubber is designed to look like soil — with the contrasting upper naturally looking like grass.Brown speckled rope laces are joined by two other flat-lace options, while an “Easy Yellow” insole is stamped with adidas’ new “Plant and Grow” logo, also appearing on the recycled cardboard shoe box. Rounding out this pair of mules is the adidas branding on the tongue, finished in gold as a nod to Superstars of the past.Take a look at adidas Originals’ Superstar “Plant and Grow” Mule above, and pick up a pair from adidas Australia for $160 AUD (approx. $115 USD).For more summer-ready shoes, check out the latest offering from Grounds.Click here to view full gallery at HYPEBEAST
