The Travis Scott x Jordan Cut the Check Will Release Later This Year

Travis Scott stoked the (la) flames of the sneaker rumor mill in May when he wore a never-before-seen Jordan Brand silhouette to the premiere of The Idol at the Cannes Film Festival in May. While The Idol came and went with little more than a whimper, excitement around Scott’s sneakers remained high, and now, in July, we’ve finally gotten a little more info on them: namely that they’re called the “Cut the Check.”The “Cut the Check” will be Scott’s first fully original sneaker with Jordan Brand, and follows up more than half a dozen collabs with both the Jumpman and Nike, from Air Jordan 1s to SB Dunk Lows and Air Force 1s. It’s equipped with his signature backwards Swoosh, and seems to draw some elements from the Air Jordan 5 as well. In images shared by zsneakerheadz and Sneaker Files, other colorways of the model revealed since Cannes appear to feature a forefoot strap and special outsole branding.Though an official date of arrival for the Travis Scott x Jordan Cut the Check has yet to be announced, it’ll reportedly drop later this year in a full family size run before arriving in more colorways in the early days of 2024. Stay tuned for more info as it’s made available.TRAVIS SCOTT’S NEW JORDAN “CUT THE CHECK” shoe is expected to debut later this year…✂️✔️? @trvisXX ?: @zSneakerHeadz @sneakerfiles pic.twitter.com/3d7eyZx42x— zSneakerHeadz (@zSneakerHeadz) July 13, 2023Original Story: Gearing up for the release of his fourth studio album, UTOPIA, Travis Scott is also now believed to be taking his partnership with Jordan Brand to a new height. Showing up on the red carpet for Festival de Cannes, La Flame was spotted in what is now believed to be his first Jordan Brand signature shoe.Already catching attention for his suit set up accented by zip-up hoodie layering, the rapper was photographed in an unidentified pair of sneakers with reverse Swoosh branding. The potential debut Nike/Jordan Brand signature shoe builds on the tones of Scott’s previous collaborative releases expressing a mix of black and dark brown in suede. The shoe is also accompanied by Jumpman motifs at the tongue and thick black waxed laces. Finishing up the design are black midsoles paired with off white rubber outsoles.Take a look at Travis Scott in what is believed to be his first Jordan Brand signature shoe above. For more footwear news, take a first look at Travis Scott’s UTOPIA Air Jordan 1 Low “Olive.”

“Dark Obsidian” Engulfs the Nike Dunk Low Twist

As demonstrated throughout 2023, Nike is not relenting with its output of Dunks. The shoe has dominated the sneaker space throughout this decade with collaborations and a range of variants created to modernize the timeless silhouette. At the forefront of the conversation, the Dunk Low has stood out with its nearly-complete rainbow of colorways. In an attempt to diversify its offerings, it has switched up its materials and crafted fresh iterations of the design. For 2023, this led to the introduction of the Dunk Low Twist.Various colorways of the new variant have popped up in recent months, however, with “Dark Obsidian,” Nike has tapped into the dark side of the color spectrum. First, its leather base dons the almost-black navy hue while the leather overlays are coated in a true black finish. The silhouette’s signature Swooshes that separate from the upper at its tail also appear in black. Its bubble branding returns at the tongue while the collar features a patent leather finish in navy to complete this look.Looking forward to the release of the Nike Dunk Low Twist “Dark Obsidian?” While the Swoosh has yet to share any release information regarding the pair, it’s expected to land on shelves in the coming months at a price of $120 USD via Nike and select retailers. For more of the latest and greatest from the footwear industry, Nike has announced its newest running shoe — the InfinityRN 4 — supported by new ReactX foam cushioning.

Brain Dead’s Oakley Factory Team Paguro Mule Is at One With Nature

Brain Dead’s partnership with Oakley Factory Team is arguably the finest collaboration in the market today, consistently producing ’90s and noughties-inspired footwear that eschews trends, in turn somewhat making a trend of its own. This practice now continues with the duo’s latest offering, the Brain Dead x Oakley Factory Team Paguro. The brand-new design comes from lengths of development courtesy of Factory Team Labs, which has created a slip-on mule inspired by the (adorable) Paguro crustacean, also known as a hermit crab. The reason behind the name comes from the crustacean’s evolutionary process, which sees it transfer from shell to shell — and like the crab, the Paguro mule proffers elements of a compound structure, detailed with intricacy much like the organic casings of the Paguro creature. In order to make the mule, the teams used variating densities of EVA foam to form a supportive body before adding TPU for added comfort and bounce. Natural formation detailing works the upper, adding ventilation while it’s there, while Oakley branding is hidden within said aesthetic touches.Elsewhere, colorways such as “Cold Brew,” “Hummus” and “Toadstool” add to the organic, natural themes. The exclusive Oakley Factory Team Paguro Collection is via Brain Dead locations, Oakley locations, on Brain Dead’s website, and via DSML now, for just £67 GBP ($87 USD). Take a closer look at all three Spring/Summer 2023 iterations in the campaign above. For more drops, here’s what’s not to miss this week.
