Bright Colors and Advanced Tech Abound in norda’s SS23 001 Lineup

The 001 trail running sneaker from norda is a technical marvel, constructed from elite materials like custom bio-based Dyneema fabric and Vibram rubber. Though its tech specs are lofty and lab-approved, its purpose is to bring its wearer into nature — so norda’s SS23 collection of 001s is inspired by the natural world and all of its beauty. The collection is made up of an “Azure” collab with Ray Zahab plus fresh “Retro White/Forest” and “Lemon” colorways, each of which spotlights the advanced tech on display and nods to the trails the 001 is made to take you through. Ray Zahab is an ultra-endurance athlete and a longtime norda pattern, and his “Azure” sneaker is inspired by a vision of a butterfly that he had on a multi-day journey through the Amazon. Its eponymous blue shade is accented with both black and white details while a special swirling graphic arrives on the tongue. “Retro White/Forest” offers a calm off-white base with elegant forest green accents, and, for the first time ever, a suede heel tab. Its colorblocking and details are straight off of an Aimé Leon Dore moodboard, which is fitting: 001 designer Louis-Martin Tremblay worked closely with ALD before norda was founded in 2020. Last but certainly not least, the “Lemon” contrasts its light yellow upper with hits of dark slate grey and medium smoke grey for a mixture of vibrancy and sturdiness. Each model features norda’s signature custom bio-based Dyneema upper as well as Litebase midsoles and Megagrip outsoles from Vibram. All three pairs are available now via the norda webstore. The “Retro White/Forest” and “Lemon” colorways are priced at $285 USD, while Zahab’s “Azure” retails for $295 USD. 5% of sales from Zahab’s collaboration will benefit the i2P foundation, which leads free adventure-based learning programs for students around the globe. For more from norda, check out Hypebeast’s feature on the brand’s history, technological innovations and design cues.

Earthy Tones Collide With Colorful Accents on the New Balance 990v3 “Tan/Blue”

Teddy Santis continues to impress sneakerheads with his creative direction as he helms New Balance’s MADE in USA footwear line. The Aimé Leon Dore has inserted his eye for aesthetic details and colors into a variety of silhouettes, but one that continues to capture our attention is the New Balance 990v3. Following up on the appearance of the model’s black and tan colorway, the lifestyle offering has just been revealed in a fresh “Tan/Blue” color palette. For this newest installment, Santis converges earthy tones with vivid accents. The former can be seen throughout most of the upper as the mesh underlays are doused with a tan hue while the overlays atop the heels and toe boxes are covered in a chocolatey brown and the quarter panels are filled in with a muted gray. Extra bold accents can be found on the collars which have been filled in with a bold purple hue, the interior liners are fashioned with bright orange and the tongue’s customary New Balance branding which stands out in red.Check out a closer look at the pair above and find these launching alongside a similarly-styled 990v2 colorway on February 23 for $200 USD.Elsewhere in sneakers, YCMC recently released an exclusive 990v3 colorway.

Balenciaga Drops Another 3XL Trainer Colorway From “The Mud Show”

From bondage bears to Ye, Balenciaga’s Summer 2023 runway “The Mud Show” is shrouded in controversy — but the Demna-helmed House carries on strong, releasing its seasonal hit sneaker, the 3XL Trainer. As various colorways begin to sell out, Balenciaga has now dropped a new “Yellow/Black” iteration, just like the ones seen on Look 8 during the show.Balenicaga’s 3XL Trainer is the natural successor to other divisive yet ultimately successful silhouettes from the House, such as the Triple S, Track, and Runner. Here, Demna and his team look to the runner sneakers of the 1990s and early 2000s, creating a pair made from lightweight mesh and polyurethane for something indebted to the past.In true Balenciaga fashion, subversion of luxury is at the fore. Worn-out details are added all around, distressing the uppers lightly to imply wear and tear, while elements like laces that loop and tie around the vamp are added to keep the shoe in tact, even though they already are.Branding hits the toe bumper and heel, while embossed sizing also on the heel is another quintessential Demna touch. Retrofuturistic 3XL branding appears on the tongue.Like the pairs that came before, this Balenciaga 3XL Trainer in “Yellow/Black” retails for £830 GBP (or roughly $1,000 USD) and can be bought online or in-store now. Take a closer look at the sneaker above. In other news, Kiko Kostadinov’s ASICS GEL-QUANTUM ZIENTZIA has been revealed.
