From bondage bears to Ye, Balenciaga’s Summer 2023 runway “The Mud Show” is shrouded in controversy — but the Demna-helmed House carries on strong, releasing its seasonal hit sneaker, the 3XL Trainer. As various colorways begin to sell out, Balenciaga has now dropped a new “Yellow/Black” iteration, just like the ones seen on Look 8 during the show.Balenicaga’s 3XL Trainer is the natural successor to other divisive yet ultimately successful silhouettes from the House, such as the Triple S, Track, and Runner. Here, Demna and his team look to the runner sneakers of the 1990s and early 2000s, creating a pair made from lightweight mesh and polyurethane for something indebted to the past.In true Balenciaga fashion, subversion of luxury is at the fore. Worn-out details are added all around, distressing the uppers lightly to imply wear and tear, while elements like laces that loop and tie around the vamp are added to keep the shoe in tact, even though they already are.Branding hits the toe bumper and heel, while embossed sizing also on the heel is another quintessential Demna touch. Retrofuturistic 3XL branding appears on the tongue.Like the pairs that came before, this Balenciaga 3XL Trainer in “Yellow/Black” retails for £830 GBP (or roughly $1,000 USD) and can be bought online or in-store now.
