COMME Des GARÇONS SHIRT may have a name that indicates an inherent familiarity with top-half-of-body garments, but they’re well-versed in the world of footwear as well. The COMME Des GARÇONS sub-label has a consistent partnership with ASICS, and the most recent byproduct of their creative fusion is a three-pack of monochromatic collabs that pull from the ASICS running and basketball archives.The two partners have produced a duo of takes on the OC Runner, a throwback (you guessed it) running shoe and a single iteration of the Japan S, an old-school hoops sneaker. The OC Runner is available in both high-gloss black and matte white, while the Japan S is available in all-white and features a pixelated graphic from street artist Invader, who’s also worked with CdG SHIRT on an apparel collection in the past. Each shoe is crafted from supple premium leather and both of the OC Runners boast a contrasting tongue badge. The simplicity of this new three-pack is a rather striking departure from the collaborative ethos established on the previous COMME Des GARÇONS SHIRT x ASICS collaborations. In 2022, the two covered the GEL-LYTE III in a colorful camo print and in 2021 they used everything from sparkling details to multi-colored leopard print to the Tarther, an obscure running sneaker. Magnus Ronning’s eponymous London label, Ronning, has shown that diversification is the way to succeed. With a slew of statement pieces such as its much-loved lace shirt, an ongoing collaboration with Solovair, and a homeware line, Ronning has created a uniform for its loyal followers — and now comes its sneaker.Dubbed the TYPE 0-3 EVERYDAY SNEAKER, Ronning’s silhouette is evidently inspired by Maison Margiela’s Replica sneaker, and in turn, the original Germany Army Trainer (GAT). But, this is no bad thing, as a classic style is a classic for a reason, and now Ronning adds its touch to the silhouette (as brands such as adidas Originals has done with its BW Army offering) to create a pair of shoes fit for all occasions.Crafted from premium white leather — so soft you can see the textural finish in the images — and light gray suede for appliqués on the mid-panel, toe, vamp and heel, we find subtle touches including silver foiled Ronning branding on the tongue and soft leather insoles. The luxurious pair is rounded off with a traditional gum outsole and white laces, and to up the ante, the style has been handmade in Portugal.The Ronning TYPE 0-3 EVERYDAY SNEAKER will drop online at 8 p.m. BST (3 p.m. EDT) on October 9, coming in sizes EU 39-46.
