Up There and ASICS Reconvene for a Floral-Inspired GT-II Collaboration
While primarily known for engineering marathon-ready running models, ASICS makes it a point to back its lifestyle sneaker category with a considerable amount of energy every year. In recent memory, we’ve seen the Japanese sportswear brand produce projects with the likes of Bodega and unveil a forthcoming capsule with JJJJound, and now it has announced its GT-II collaboration with Up There.Floral elements from Australia and Japan take are the focus of this footwear initiative to symbolize a partnership that merges language barriers and bridges continents. Up There implements a crochet mesh upper that is fitted with tones of Pink Heath — a flower that is strongly associated with the retailer’s hometown of Victoria, Australia. Sitting adjacent to this comes a mix of dusted gray suedes atop the upper overlays and sage accents along the interior lining which are meant to translate Chrysanthemum leaves — the official flower of the Hyogo Prefecture. Lateral heels split between actual embroidered imagery of the Pink Heath on the right shoe while a Chrysanthemum adorns the left side.If interested in copping, Up There is slated to release these on May 6.In other footwear news, ASICS has unveiled the latest evolution of its METASPEED series.
New Balance 550 Unveiled in a Duo of Lakers-Friendly Colorways
Given that the sneaker community continues to go crazy over the 550 whether it be the model’s collaborations or GRs, New Balance has responded by essentially tripling down on its output in 2022. It’s no secret that this silhouette has a chokehold on the sneakerheads both old and new alike, and this season it’s preparing a duo of new colorways that come fashioned with LA Lakers-inspired palettes.Keep in mind that these pairs are in no way affiliated with the professional NBA team, but their presentations clearly nod to their signature colors. Both options here come produced with the traditional white leather uppers and feature perforated textures along the lower mid-foot region. The first pair is guided by yellow and gold accents which show face atop the N logos, basketballs on the tongues, tongue trimming and the treading while purple plays a secondary role in touching up the “550” hits and piping. The second pair allows purple to do most of the heavy lifting by draping over the heightened parts of the heel, N insignias, tongue graphics and the front and back ends of the soles. Pops of Lakers yellow shows face through the N logo outlines, “550” embellishments and tongue lettering. No release info has been announced just yet, but New Balance is set to drop these shortly. For other sneaker-related news, the New Balance 2002R has received a “Light Cream/Purple” colorway.
