Fucking Awesome and Vans Reunite for Technical Collaboration
Fucking Awesome and Vans have reunited after a two year hiatus to create the UltimateWaffle EXP silhouette. Designed in collaboration with Fucking Awesome Entertainment co-owner Anthony Van Engelen, the new silhouette is constructed using the SturdyStitch process. This process allows the upper to be both durable and flexible, as well as increasing its abrasion resistance and breathability. SturdyStitch is a TPU-based thread traditionally used for techincal embroidery, that has been heat-pressed to create a breathable monomesh base. This SturdyStitch upper is then reinforced with multiple layers in high-wear areas.Other technical features include the use of RapidWeld technology to add structure to the midfoot and vamp, as well as a translucent UltimateWaffle outsole construction. This outsole mixed an UltraCush insole with a stabilizing shank, which adds cushioning, durability and support. Lastly, a LuxLiner sock interior is used.Take a look at the technical sneaker in the gallery above. The Fucking Awesome x Vans UltimateWaffle EXP is due to release in a classic black and white colorway on December 9. The sneaker will be available from the Vans web store and select stockists. As well as launching its latest work with Fucking Awesome, Vans also partnered with Yeti Out for a mismatched new collaboration.
Ebay Acquires Footwear Authentication Service, Sneaker Con
eBay has officially acquired sneaker authentication service Sneaker Con. The deal further solidifies eBay’s existing relationship with the service and continues to grow the platform’s reputation in the footwear vetting process. The Verge reports that with every purchase of a sneaker over the price of $100 USD, eBay utilizes Sneaker Con to authenticate the shoes. At Sneaker Con, the shoes go through a slew of professionals and experts who can ensure that the pair matches the description of the listing and is an original shoe. After they have been vetted, eBay sends the buyer the shoe, which includes a tag that verifies its authentication. Since partnering with Sneaker Con in October 2020, eBay has vetted approximately 1.55 million sneakers with 1.9 million sneakers available on its site daily. In a statement, the SVP and GM of eBay North America Jordan Sweetnam said, “The response to our authentication offering has been overwhelming, and this acquisition allows us to continue to transform eBay and bring a higher level of trust and confidence to every transaction.” In addition to sneakers, eBay also authenticates luxury watches and handbags. In other footwear news, UNDEFEATED has revived Geoff McFetrdige’s “U-Man” pattern for its new Vault by Vans OG Old Skool LX Pack.
