John Geiger Hires Kanye West’s Former YEEZY Lawyer to Lead His Defense Team in Nike Lawsuit

After making a public statement on Instagram in response to Nike suing him over the Geiger GF-01’s copyright infringement of the Air Force 1, John Geiger and La La Land Production and Design Inc. have hired sneaker industry expert and lawyer Kenneth Anand to lead his team in their lawsuit with Nike. Anand currently serves as the Counsel to Jayaram Law and was Kanye West’s former General Counsel of YEEZY Apparel and a co-creator of Sneaker Law, a business and legal textbook about the footwear industry. Geiger’s new council supplied HYPEBEAST with exclusive statements about their intentions for the tackling these claims.“John Geiger has produced a premium sneaker that is materially different from the Air Force 1 in its design, quality, price, and positioning”, says Anand about the case. “There can be no likelihood of confusion between the two. It is well known that the Air Force 1 has been a source of inspiration for many footwear brands. Nike cannot selectively enforce its trade dress against certain creators just because they think they will roll over and settle. At some point, this has to stop.”Elsewhere on his team is Vivek Jayaram — the founder founder of Jayaram Law — whom also elected to make a statement. “I founded this firm in 2009 to protect and advance the rights of creatives,” states Jayaram. “John Geiger is an innovative designer who has developed a valuable portfolio of his own intellectual property that is adored by consumers around the world. Nike’s allegations of trade dress infringement are overreaching and reflect a basic misunderstanding of a consumer’s view of John’s coveted GF-01’s. We will vigorously defend these baseless claims.”Sean Davis, CEO and founding partner of John Geiger LLC. also commented on his intentions of moving forward in this dispute. “A lot of people in our position would seek the most inexpensive and easiest path for conflict resolution,” Davis says. “But in this scenario, John and I welcome the opportunity to defend our brand, and we look forward to seeing this lengthy process through.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by John Geiger (@johngeiger_)If you haven’t already, be sure to check out official images of the Air Jordan 14 Low “Red Lipstick.”

GOAT Shares the Best AJ4 Women’s Styles To Mark the Release of the Air Jordan 4 Retro “Shimmer”

Since the Air Jordan 4 “Shimmer” was unveiled last month, the new women’s exclusive from the Jumpman has been compared to popular styles from Hender Scheme and the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 4 “Sail.” While the satisfyingly clean execution draws similarities to these designs with neutral coloring and premium construction, “Shimmer” is a singular take on the AJ4. In fact, the release is meant to be a sartorial celebration of women who champion other women while cultivating community and creating inclusive spaces. The elegant tan tone was inspired by makeup palettes, a point of influence that’s evident in its tonal execution and mirrored logo, a detail that’s symbolic of reflecting true beauty into the world and to oneself. All the while, the release stays true to the iconic Air Jordan 4, a model with a strong history of women’s exclusives, ranging from celebratory anniversary versions to collaborative iterations concepted by Olivia Kim and Virgil Abloh. To mark the release of the Air Jordan 4 Retro “Shimmer,” GOAT is shouting out the ladies with a roundup of standout AJ4 women’s drops. The lineup shows off a variety of inspirations, proving the silhouette caters to the distinct and wide-ranging personalities of the strong and inspiring female sneakerheads who wear them.Off-White™ x Air Jordan 4 “Sail”Release Date: July 25, 2020Lowest Price: $1,112 USDReleased last year as a women’s exclusive, the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 4 “Sail” is a more muted version of Virgil Abloh’s typical sneaker designs thanks to monochromatic coloring — but doesn’t skimp on the brand’s signature design hits. The collaborative effort comes through in unmissable “Air” and “shoelaces” callouts, along with a cable tie to match the “Sail” colorway. The build is composed of a full-grain leather and a grid mesh cover on the shoe’s upper, complemented by clear TPU details and Nike Air branding on the heel.Air Jordan 4 Retro “Sand”Release Date: July 22, 2006Lowest Price: $705 USDConstructed in pure white and khaki tones, the Air Jordan 4 “Sand” harkens back to the late ’80s and represents another popular neutral take on the model. This women’s version, reimagined in a “Sand” colorway, was issued in 2006 and pays homage to the original AJ4 that was realized in 1989. The sneaker maintains its retro details, like the leather and mesh upper, visible Air chamber and of course, the Jumpman logo on the tongue and heel.Air Jordan 4 Retro “Rasta”Release Date: April 16, 2020Lowest Price: $170 USDDesigned as a seasonal variation of the Air Jordan 4, “Rasta” was a timely release in April of 2020 as it was dropped with an intention of celebrating hope and inspire peace, love and harmony. The spirit of the shoe comes through in a distinct gradient of red, yellow and green on the net, offsetting the white tumbled leather upper. Another distinguishing detail is the sneaker’s two-tone green and black outsole, matched by black laces, lace wings and woven tongue tag to complete the Rasta-inspired look.Air Jordan 4 Retro “Starfish”Release Date: January 22, 2021Lowest Price: $150 USDAnother women’s exclusive from earlier this year, the Air Jordan 4 Retro “Starfish” sets itself apart with a unique mesh overlay that allows the bright orange undertones to come through. Raw edges throughout enhance the unique effect, revealing the same color to create the appearance of orange outlines. The bright hue is more traditionally displayed on the tongue’s Jumpan logo as well as on the sole, which are complemented by a grey midsole and lace wings.Olivia Kim x Air Jordan 4 Retro “No Cover”Release Date: November 8, 2019Lowest Price: $330 USDMade in collaboration with Olivia Kim, Nordstrom’s Vice President of Creative Projects, the Air Jordan 4 Retro “No Cover” uses a creative mix of material and texture, resulting in a luxe twist on the iconic sneaker. The fully blacked-out version of the AJ4 uses premium pony hair throughout the upper of the shoe, which has been likened to the popular “Black Car.” The all-black theme continues on the sneaker’s Jumpman branding, netting, mid-panel wings, midsole and outsole.Air Jordan 4 Retro “Mushroom”Release Date: September 19, 2019Lowest Price: $320 USDThe Air Jordan 4 “Mushroom” was released in fall 2019 to celebrate the iconic silhouette’s 30th anniversary. The release pays homage by remaining true to the OG AJ4. As the name suggests, the muted color was inspired by mushrooms, appearing across the suede upper, surrounded by contrasting black details on the laces, midsole and structural wings.Air Jordan 4 Retro “Shimmer”Release Date: September 3, 2021Lowest Price: $269 USDThis new release of the Air Jordan 4 Retro “Shimmer” is a subtle nod to warm color palettes. Constructed with nubuck overlays and burnished leather that will develop a fine sheen overtime, the release has a slight metallic finish, hence its moniker.
