New Balance 327 Emerges in “Scarlet/Team Red”

There are several key players for New Balance and its powerful lifestyle footwear category right now, one being the New Balance 327 which has broadened its catalog with many a different colorway in Spring/Summer ’21. To close out the month of June, the silhouette is being crafted in a fresh new “Scarlet” and “Team Red” colorway. The uppers of this latest offering go heavy on the red shadings. Its “Scarlet” hue is spilled on the lateral side paneling and covers most of the ground, while a “Team Red” hue is pasted to the suede overlays that accompany. White accents are also prevalent on these kicks as they adorn the New Balance branding on the sides, medial walls, shoe laces and nylon tongues. Subtle hits of blue also make an appearance on the New Balance logos on the tongues and insoles to somewhat give these a USA-esque theme. Midsoles come prepared with a slightly aged, off white skin, and ride atop traditional waffle treading in black. If you’re a fan of these 327s and want to add them to your rotation this season, you can buy them via New Balance right now for $100 USD.In case you missed it, the Bodega x New Balance 990v3 is dropping globally in July.

Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Artwork Returns to the Dr. Martens 1460 and 1461

Jean-Michel Basquiat’s estate, represented by Artestar, has joined forces with Dr. Martens for a second collaborative collection. Following up the two’s inaugural capsule in July 2020, this new offering brings two of Basquiat’s most famous works — Untitled (1982) and Pez Dispenser — to the iconic 1460 boot and 1461 shoe.Basquiat’s bright, bold and powerful artworks leap off each Dr. Martens’ black leather base: Untitled (1982) covers the entire quarter panel and sockliner of the 1460 boot, while a crown embellishment appears on the lace deubre. Meanwhile, the 1461 shoe features Pez Dispenser’s dinosaur rising up out of its midsole’s lateral half to sit on the quarter panel. Both pairs are completed with a black and yellow heel tab adorned by Basquiat’s familiar crown graphic plus another crown visible under the thick “bouncing” rubber soles, and are packaged in custom shoeboxes. There’s also a black leather backpack with a full color print of Untitled (1982) included in the collection. The duo of styles continue a busy 2021 for Dr. Martens: in recent months the British footwear brand has collaborated with everyone from CLOT and Supreme to Bodega and Rick Owens, and even worked with the estate of Basquiat’s contemporary and friend Keith Haring back in January. The Jean-Michel Basquiat x Dr. Martens collection will release on July 3 through the Dr. Martens webstore and select retailers. For more Dr. Martens content, check out Bodega co-founder Oliver Mak’s installment of Sole Mates, in which he discusses his love of the 1461.

Converse’s Chuck 70 Hi “Sunflower Trek” Looks Like It Stepped Into a Painter’s Palette

Converse’s Chuck 70 Hi has been through too many transformations to name, but it’s always the classics (or the lightly reworked ones) that remain stalwarts in our collection — and this “Sunflower Trek” version is no exception from this case.”Sunflower” yellow canvas makes up the upper, intersecting its body with the iconic white-and-black leather Converse All Star roundel on the medial-side collar, contrasting white stitching, and white laces. As expected, a traditional layout of silver-toned eyelets runs up the eyestay placket, while a white toe bumper is contrasted with a black running stripe, a black license plate, and a white midsole unit. However, this is where the expected ends, and a welcomed touch of the unexpected can be found. Extending from the midsole is a new trek outsole, covered in a marbled, multicolored design comprising hints of blueish-gray, white, red, yellow, and black. The marbled finish gives off a camouflaged look, but when you flip the shoe onto its sole profile you can see it’s much more of an artistic finish, looking as if you’ve stepped into paint.Rugged micro-toothed caps are found at the toe and heel of the outsole, while the middle section is deeply ridged and toothed to give the Chuck 70 Hi height and structure.Converse’s Chuck 70 Hi “Sunflower Trek” retails for €140 EUR (approx. $167 USD) and can be purchased from Sivasdescalzo now.In case you missed it, check out Anna Bediones’ take on Sole Mates, in which she spotlighted the AJ11 “Space Jam.”
