Why the Dr. Martens 1461 Should Be Your Alternative Summer Footwear

The 1461 is without a doubt Dr. Martens’ most recognised silhouette. Since its initial launch 60 years to the day — the date the shoe is named after — it’s successfully infiltrated a plethora of subcultures across the globe, becoming a uniform for many.Sat atop an air-cushioned sole that’s been reinforced with Dr. Martens’ signature yellow welt stitching, the 1461 remains untouched in terms of its craftsmanship since its birth. Traditionally dressed in shades of “Cherry” or black, the brand has since expanded its offering in recent decades, to include an array of new colorways and finishes. From “Peppermint Green” in a soft smooth leather and “Sun Yellow” suede lace ups, to stand-out white patent leathers — there’s a 1461 for everyone.Showcasing the 1461: Made in England range with a clean and concise lookbook, here demos the silhouette’s versatility, by showing us how to wear and style the shoe in 2021, and why the 1461 can be everyone’s alternative summer footwear choice. You can shop Dr. Martens’ 1461 range via the brand’s online webstore now.In other news, Birkenstock has dropped its Arosa Leather Buckle Sandals as United Arrows exclusives.

HAY Dresses Suicoke DEPA 2.0 in Spring-Ready Colorways

Danish furniture and design label HAY has revealed a new collaboration with SUICOKE, following up last year’s release with four DEPA 2.0 colorways. The four new designs feature a color-blocked aesthetic, which pairs a black foam and rubber sole unit with brightly-colored straps celebrating the different themes. The colors used throughout all reference HAY’s wider spring collection, with colorways such as “Urban Sport” — which features hits of pink at the rear and darker green and black on the forefoot straps — and “Touch of Blue,” which contrats an eye-catching blue strap with muted brown, navy and pastel pink. Additionally, the DEPA 2.0 comes in “Forest Delight” and “Mango Splash.”Unveiling the collaboration, Mette Hay said, “I always feel that there are so many infinitely different ways to combine color, and these harmonious combinations are simply what felt right to us this season.”All four colorways are available now from the HAY web store. For more comfortable footwear, take a look at The North Face’s EQBC Slides.

Y-3 Puts an Avant-Garde Spin on the adidas Originals Forum Hi OG

Yohji Yamamoto’s adidas Originals sub-label Y-3 follows on from its recently-released Spring/Summer 2021 collection with the unveiling of a new take on a classic sneaker, introducing its Forum Hi OG.In typical form, Y-3 applies signature house cues and a monochromatic, minimalistic approach to the Forum Hi OG to turn it into a piece of avant-garde design. As such, you’ll find a full leather upper met with a complementing suede lining and a rubber outsole, with Y-3 branding appearing debossed into the tongue and on the hook-and-loop strap, which elevates the Forum Hi OG’s original strap function.Fusing its vision with the classic design once more is the inclusion of a new wraparound zipper. Starting from the tongue and just beneath the collar, this zip runs all the way around the high-top sneaker and finishes just before the lateral-side front-quarter. The zip allows for better access when putting the shoe on, which is increased by the collar’s choice of material as it appears in mesh rather than the premium leather that’s found elsewhere.Rounding out Y-3’s pair is the inclusion of zig-zag stitching on the mid-panels and towards the heel, as well as the perforated toe box which has been taken from the original design. The Y-3 Forum Hi OG seen above can be purchased from the Confirmed app in North America and Europe, on adidas’ website, in store and through a selection of retailers globally on April 7, costing £250 GBP a pair (approx. $345 USD).In other news, Bad Bunny and adidas Originals have given their collaborative Forum Low an apt “Easter Egg” rework.
