It’s a match made in heaven, or at least in the city of angels. L.A.-based based Clae Partners is teaming up with LA-based COMUNITYmade, makers of small-batch customizable shoes, on a special 10th-anniversary edition of Clae’s bestselling Bradley Court Shoe, a low-top sneaker that blends the comfort of athletic construction with modern casual aesthetics.
The limited-run, handcrafted Clae x COMUNITYmade Bradley X ($350)—which coincides with Clae’s 25th anniversary—features the clean, minimal aesthetic that has made the Bradley a hit for a decade but adds a few new twists. In keeping with Clae’s focus on sustainable manufacturing, the earth-toned shoe is made from natural vegetable-tanned leather and features recycled laces as well as 30 percent natural rubber outsoles. An embossed logo reads “Clae est. 2001. Handcrafted in Los Angeles.”
“This was a natural fit for us since we are both Los Angeles–based independent brands with a shared commitment to premium craftsmanship and local, responsible design,” says Sung Choi, co-founder and creative director for Clae. “Partnering with COMUNITYmade allowed us to create something truly unique that combines Clae’s minimalist California aesthetic with COMUNITYmade’s expertise in handcrafted small-batch production. The collaboration feels authentic to both brands and celebrates our Los Angeles roots through thoughtful design and elevated execution.”
Choi says the Bradley X is designed for “the conscious consumer who values minimalist design, premium materials, and intentional craftsmanship. Our customer appreciates quiet sophistication, those who invest in quality products with lasting value, rather than chasing something fast and trendy. They’re also drawn to brands that reflect a more thoughtful approach to design and production.” Like Clae, COMUNITYmade is a company with a conscience, priding itself on giving back and helping those in need.
With concurrent 10- and 25-year milestones this year, expect more special editions from Clae in the coming months. “This an especially meaningful year for us, so we’ll be introducing additional special projects and limited-edition releases that celebrate key moments from our history while continuing to push the brand forward,” says Choi.
