Soles4Souls and Partners Treat NYC Kids to New Shoes and Socks

Hundreds of schoolchildren are sporting fresh kicks after an exclusive shoe and sock giveaway hosted by nonprofit groups Soles4Souls and Partnership with Children (PWC) on April 21 at Harlem’s PS 194.
“We had a wonderful Soles4Souls 4EveryKid event where we served over 200 kids who went home with brand new sneakers and socks,” says Mike Shirey, chief operating officer and executive vice president of circularity for Soles4Souls.
The annual event is a cornerstone of Soles4Souls’ 4EveryKid program, which provides brand-new athletic shoes to students experiencing homelessness across the U.S. “We are grateful for the support of the team at Caleres and Famous Footwear, who help us continue to expand our 4EveryKid impact in New York City and nationally,” adds Shirey.
Data from 4EveryKid shows that having footwear that fits properly helps children attend school, stay active, and participate in sports, all of which can pave the way to a brighter future.
PWC’s mission is to strengthen the emotional, social, and cognitive skills of children in New York City so they can succeed in school, society, and life. The group provides trauma-informed counseling, community-based programming, and healing-based arts education. PWC currently serves 144 students at PS 194 through its programming, with more than 94 percent of these students identified as having high economic need or living in poverty.
