John Fluevog and Saturday Night Live cast member Sarah Sherman have teamed up to design a boot as edgy and unconventional as the comedian herself. The John Fluevog Sarah Squirm Boot (named for Sherman’s standup alter ego, Sarah Squirm) is a multi-color patchwork leather clog with a three-inch wood platform and a four-inch heel with a rubber outsole, modeled on Fluevog’s iconic vintage-style Superclog family.
It’s a fitting creation from a comedian known for her bold, colorful, often outrageous standup—and a fashion sense to match it. Sherman is fond of dressing in clashing clown outfits with bright primary-colored stars and polka dots.
“These are what my dream shoes look like—perfect Raggedy Ann in patchwork,” Sherman stated. “And because they’re Fluevogs, they’re super comfortable. The kid in me can’t believe it. I drew a picture from my brain, and now they’re mine.”
Sherman’s design gave John Fluevog “shivers of joy,” in his own words. “I was selling things not much different than it in 1973. They are totally my vibe,” he stated. He praises Sherman for “pushing boundaries in fun and interesting ways,” an approach for which the designer himself is renowned. “It’s so exciting to work with Sarah on this project, as she has never shied away from her creativity, art and humor,” added the designer, whose company is celebrating its 55th anniversary.
The launch of the John Fluevog Sarah Squirm Boot ($599, available nationwide at John Fluevog stores and online at https://www.fluevog.com/shop/8252) coincides with the premiere of Sarah Sherman’s first stand-up special, Sarah Squirm: Live + In the Flesh, debuting on HBO and streaming on HBO Max starting December 12th. Sherman joins a long line of stars to wear Fluevog’s avant-garde, eye-catching footwear, including Chappell Roan, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga.
Fifteen percent of sales from the boot will be donated to Trans Lifeline, a non-profit organization offering emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis.
