HOKA Joins Forces With Seoul-Based XLIM To Launch the New Mafate Speed 2

HOKA has launched a major collaboration with XLIM, a pioneering Korean brand that blends fashion, architecture, and art aesthetics. This collaboration uses the classic Mafate Speed 2 trail running shoe as its base, perfectly fusing top-tier outdoor functionality with a unique street perspective. The design draws inspiration from the evolution of materials over time in nature, exploring the subtle tension between organic elements and man-made structures. Through rich material textures and meticulously crafted color palettes, XLIM seamlessly infuses its signature experimental aesthetic into HOKA’s performance-driven design foundation, creating a new silhouette full of layers and postmodern visual tension. This collaboration is not merely a reinvention of the shoe design, but a profound reflection on the evolution of high-performance running shoe culture and the collision of cross-disciplinary creativity. Thomas Cykana, Senior Director of Global Collaboration at HOKA, stated that the Mafate Speed 2 combines technological sophistication with practicality, perfectly embodying XLIM’s renowned postmodern aesthetic. The unique texture of the upper, reminiscent of weathered time, pays homage to the power of nature in sculpting the earth. Dohee Kim, founder and creative director of XLIM, also admitted that rather than viewing this project as a traditional collaboration, he prefers to see it as a shared journey of exploration, allowing different perspectives to converge and spark unexpected ideas, giving the entire creative process a deeper meaning. The new HOKA x XLIM Mafate Speed 2 collaboration features several stunning and talked-about colorways. The deeply textured “Black Charcoal” was first released exclusively in the Asia-Pacific region on April 24; while the “Grey Foam” and “Peach Dust” colorways will be officially released globally on May 15, available in limited quantities in-store, online and at select retailers worldwide. For all you tech enthusiasts and avant-garde aesthetic lovers, don’t miss this opportunity to grab a pair of these new sneakers that blur the lines between functionality and everyday life.
