P22 is a new footwear label spawned from a simple and earnest belief of “bringing sustainability to trail running.” Founded by Pim Dresen, a Dutch designer, and entrepreneur behind Mercer Amsterdam, the new brand also serves as a part of Dresen’s ongoing ventures to craft high-end and sustainable goods.Borrowing the name of P-22 aka the Hollywood Cat, the notorious wild mountain lion that resided in Griffith Park, Los Angeles from 2012-2022. He was known for being “the ultimate trail runner,” as the mountain lion was often spotted prowling the Santa Monica Mountains during his ten years in the neighborhood. Inspired by the iconic Hollywood Cat, the P-22 Model 1 trail shoes are engineered to offer a stable and comfortable hike even on rocky terrains.Taking into consideration that many available trailer runner models available now have rather unstable outsoles, the Model is designed with an emphasis on eliminating overpronation. The stacked outsoles are created in collaboration with Vibram, featuring a brand-new METAFLEX technology and reduced use of plastics. The resulting outsoles are made from recycled rubber as well as sugarcane, and are geared with the perfect balance of plushness and stability. In line with Mercer Amsterdam’s sustainable practices, the shoe is not only PETA-approved, but also composed of more than 50% of recycled contents. Its engineered mesh is also crafted from recycled plastic, while also being Bluesign and Global Recycled Standard approved.Arriving in three colorways, the P-22 Model 1 is offered in “Whisper White/Spice Orange,” “Storm Gray/Emerald Green,” and “Jet Black/Aqua Green” with a price point of €199 EUR (approximately $217 USD). Releasing on September 14, the trio of trail shoes will be available via Mercer Amsterdam and select retailers.
