Detailed Look at the Nike KD 16 “Aunt Pearl”

Update: Following an early preview of an unnamed pink colorway of the KD 16, a breakdown of the official Nike KD 16 “Aunt Pearl” has popped up courtesy of retailer imagery. Joining the KD 3 in carrying the tribute colorway this year, the KD 16 “Aunt Pearl” combines a pastel pink with a vibrant version of the hue. A rose appears at the left shoe’s tongue while a nod to his late Aunt Pearl and former basketball coach Kay Yow appears at the sockliner. Release for this colorway is expected to go down on October 14 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a price of $170 USD. Stay tuned for an official breakdown, as well as an update regarding the other pink colorway that previously appeared, as discussed below.Original Story: The 2023-24 NBA season will be Kevin Durant’s next opportunity to capture his third championship, and the addition of Bradley Beal on the Phoenix Suns could potentially put him in a position to do so. And with a fresh batch of 82 games slated to arrive later this year, the “Slim Reaper” is going to be lacing up his newest Nike signature: the KD 16. Various colorways have already started to trickle out online, and now we’ve got a first look at its forthcoming Nike KD 16 “Aunt Pearl” installment. This release serves as a continuation of Durant’s tradition of honoring his late aunt that unfortunately passed away from breast cancer. It started out on the Nike KD 4 and has been one of the scoring machine’s beloved Nike initiatives. By the looks of these first leaked images, it looks as though the Swoosh designers employed a pale pink hue across its tongues, mesh underlays and textured midsole molds while dispersing hot pink accents towards the eyelets, heel icons and mid-foot molds. Tiny rear Swooshes are styled in pure white for extra contrast.More detailed images are expected to surface closer to their official debut which will likely go down during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. The MSRP is set at $160 USD. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Killer Dose ? of KD KICKS ? (@kd_features)In other news, the Martine Rose x Nike Football Collection has been revealed.

Nike Celebrates Hangul Day With the Dunk Low

As Nike has expanded its global presence, its celebration of holidays and events has grown as well. Beginning in 2021 on the Air Force 1 Low, Nike has assembled Hangul Day-themed sneakers. Landing on October 9, it is recognized as Korean Alphabet Day and is a commemorative holiday that notes the invention of Hangul — the Korean alphabet. Last year, Nike utilized the Air Max 1 and 97 with covered-up Air units and now it looks to the Dunk Low to celebrate the day. With the Dunk Low, the “Hangul Day” theme sees muted tones scattered across the upper — combining gray, white and off-white. Its material composition begins with rough suede at the base and leather detailing at the overlays. At the heel, special detailing has been prepared with Hangul text joined by unique Nike branding on each shoe, matching the sockliner and the charm accessory included with each pair. Wrapping things up, a gum sole serves as the final touch. At the time of writing, no news regarding release details for the Nike Dunk Low “Hangul Day” has been disclosed by the Swoosh. It’s likely to debut in Asia via Nike and select retailers in October with a global launch to take place shortly thereafter. For more of the latest news from the footwear space, the Air Force 1 Low is joining in on this year’s Halloween celebrations for the Swoosh, featuring a snakeskin upper, a jack-o-lantern dubrae and a thematic sockliner.
