Nike Goes Old-School With the Air Max 1 “Design by Japan”

With January all but wrapped up, March inches one month closer. In preparation of this, Nike’s gearing up for its celebration of Air Max Day, an annual event that takes place on March 26. The original release date of the Air Max 1 back in ’87, the Nike holiday has since offered an array of special releases and silhouette launches. For 2023, it looks like part of the commemorative event will be the launch of the Air Max 1 “Design by Japan.”The result of a SNKRS Japan community event, the colorway was created as a collaboration between fans of the Swoosh and the brand itself. Various retro details give the look old-school flavoring with throwback branding on the tongue and heel and a dark yellow midsole nodding to aged Nike soles. As for its color composition, an olive green outfits the leather mudguard and midfoot panel with white mesh underlays and leather Swooshes brightening the look. A tangerine hue hits the heel while additional aged detailing appears at the tongue and laces which come in a dark off-white shade.Information regarding the release of the Nike Air Max 1 “Design by Japan” has not been shared yet by the Swoosh. Look for it to likely land on shelves around March’s annual celebration of Air Max Day, potentially as a release exclusive to Japan via Nike.Stay tuned for more details and in other exciting footwear news, the Nike Air Max 90 Futura has been outfitted in a reconstructed colorway presented by the Serena Williams Design Crew.
