Maison Margiela Dips the Replica Sneaker in Patent Blue Leather

Maison Margiela debuted its GAT-inspired Replica sneaker in 1998, and over the years it has appeared in too many iterations to count, each unique from each other yet equally luxurious nevertheless. Today, Margiela has dropped a new version, this time around decking the Replica in bright blue patent leather. The patent leather encompasses every inch of the sneaker down to the midsole, which gives the shoe a look akin to something that’s been dipped in rubber. This is most evidently seen from beneath where the midsole meets the white outsole, which is finished with raw edges for a more artistic touch.Furthermore, it looks like the patent leather is only a thin layer, lending itself to accepting the natural creases that will occur over time. As such, cracks may appear on the surface — they can even be seen on the tongue in the images above. Rounding out the Replica sneaker is a set of flat black laces and a tonal blue stitch on the heel, denoting Margiela’s signature minimal branding.Maison Margiela’s Replica sneakers in blue patent leather retail for $740 USD and can be bought from Slam Jam now.Elsewhere in the footwear world, Balenciaga has covered its Runner sneaker in hi-vis hues.

Joe Freshgoods Teases New Balance 993 Collaboration

Following two successful collaborations in 2020 and 2021, titled “No Emotions Are Emotions” and “Outside Clothes,” Chicago-based designer Joe Freshgoods has now back with a third joint footwear release with New Balance slated for later this year. For now, the only images revealed so far are two shoeboxes in pale green and orange, but early rumors suggest the upcoming pairs will come in the form of the New Balance 993. The shoebox covers feature abstract cloud artwork depicting the NB logo, harkening back to Freshgoods’ “Outside Clothes” series last year.  While his 2021 release featured blue skies and white clouds, this year’s artwork teases a fierier theme with darker hues and ominous graphics.”Made For Us” is printed in cursive on the lip, and the inside cover reads, “shhhhhh…be quiet…our imaginations are speaking,” in white text. As Freshgoods’ previous collaborations have all been deeply personal and aimed at uplifting his local Chicago community, his upcoming pairs promise to tell a story of their own.The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 993 is slated to set to release on the New Balance website and select retailers this April. Stay tuned for more details.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Joefreshgoods (@joefreshgoods)In other sneaker news, the Nike LeBron 9 “Watch The Throne” receives a release date.
