adidas Originals Takes the Response CL Back to Basics

As sneakerheads around the world patiently wait for the release of Bad Bunny’s melting adidas Originals Reponse CL, the Three Stripes keeps the momentum going with yet another take on the retro-informed silhouette, dropping a colorway akin to the aforementioned collaborative version.Reintroduced in September 2020, the Response CL looks to adidas Originals’ early 2000s archive that’s filled with chunky dad shoes, retro runners, and a time obsessed with all things Trefoil. As such, the Response CL puts a heavy focus on adidas’ branding, sporting Three Stripes on the mid-panel, EQT branding on the heel and tongue, and plenty of proprietary tech that’s also branded. For example, the white and cream-toned sole unit packs adiWear and adiPRENE technology, nodding to the brand’s EQT and running heritage, while a busy mixture of materials only enhances the OG aesthetic. This particular Response CL features a mesh base that’s overlayed with corduroy and suede panels, leather on the toe box, metal-effect eyelets, a fabric patch on the heel, and contrasting gray mesh that decorates the collar and lining.Altogether, the pair isn’t too far off Bad Bunny’s upcoming collaboration, and is quintessential of adidas’ past. Take a closer look at the pair above, and purchase it from AFEW Store now for just under €120 EUR (approximately $136 USD).In other news, Sandy Liang has worked with Vans on a grandma-chic collection.

Sandy Liang’s Latest Vans Collaboration Combines Anime With Grandma Chic

New York-based fashion designer Sandy Liang and Vans are back together for their third collaborative installment, this time around presenting reworked takes on the Sk8-Hi, Style 73 DX, Half Cab 33 DX, Authentic 44 DX, and a men’s and womenswear apparel collection. For Liang’s latest collection, the designer draws from ’90s childhood nostalgia, informed by “grandma fashion, sport femme, nostalgia, and humor,” as well as anime cartoons, with all of this coming together on the sneakers and clothes. Take the Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 for example, which comes in an all-over rose-embroidered green canvas ensemble, or the Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular (an entirely new silhouette), which combines the signature shape and style of the original sneaker in black and white with a detachable sole unit extension and a deconstructed slim collar that’s adorned with lace frills, much like the doilies you’d find in your grandma’s house. As for the Style 73 DX, Liang works in a floral embroidery on one side of the uppers and “Lower East Side Lover” themes on the other side, while the Authentic 44 DX sports a multicolored gingham fabric design alongside a lace collar and a detachable pouch on the tongue.Elsewhere, we find a Half Cab 33 DX covered in dark green sherpa — and lots of it at that — alongside custom flower-shaped eyelets, while workwear staples such a the Chore Coat have been reworked in cotton canvas with an all-over embroidery, patch pockets, and a corduroy collar. Lastly, quaint details adorn items such as the bucket hat, chinos, sherpa mock neck, crossbody bag, and more.Sandy Liang’s Vans collection will drop at select Vans retailers, Vans.com and Sandy Liang’s website on January 28.
