The Nike Free Run Trail Returns in Its Original “Black/Anthracite” Makeup

“Barefoot” running shoes were thrust into the mainstream conscious when Nike first introduced its now-legendary Free line in 2004, and besides the OG model one of the first silhouettes in the Free lineage to find success was the Free Run Trail. In the decade-plus since the Free Run Trail was introduced the line’s technology has evolved many a time over — but the Free Run Trail’s classic look still holds weight, and as it lives a second life as a casual option in 2021 it’s returned in its original “Black/Anthracite” colorway. The upper’s base layer is made of a stretchy black ripstop mesh, which is quickly cocooned in a durable shell made of shaggy black suede. This outer layer features diamond-shaped perforations to increase breathability, and is embellished with an embroidered anthracite Swoosh on the lateral midfoot. Flocked fabric appears around the collar and on the tongue, the latter of which also boasts a tonal cross-shaped graphic.A see-through branded tab sits at the bottom of the knitted throat for the upper’s final touch of detail. Down below, the look is completed with beefed-up white Free midsoles, flexible enough to allow for dynamic foot movement but sturdy enough to withstand rocks, uneven surfaces and other inclement trail conditions. You can expect the Nike Free Run Trail “Black/Anthracite” to release via Nike SNKRS France on August 1, and a US release will likely occur sometime this summer as well. The MSRP is set at $120 USD.Looking for more Swoosh news? Take a first look at the Air Jordan 36.
