Following a joint effort with MOCA to unveil a new collection featuring designs by a trio of Californian artists, Vans taps rapper Tierra Whack for an exclusive collaboration consisting of both apparel and footwear celebrating creativity and childhood.In hand with Whack’s longtime stylist Shirley Kurata, the duo combines the brand’s heritage with a 1980s style to form pieces that exude the Philadelphia rapper’s unique and vibrant personal fashion sense and music. Molded with a variety of colors, shapes, patterns and phrases, the collection emphasizes a playful tone in turn echoing the “Whack” vision.Highlighting the lineup are the Vans x Tierra Whack Old Skool and Style 36 which the former is decked with an enlarged and multicolored “WHACK” text on the laterals with the sole imprinted with “Weird Hype and Creative Kids.” The design saw an initial release during her performance at the 2019 House of Vans event in Philadelphia. For the latter, the shoe opts for a two-toned contrasting makeup with a cream suede base and a striking cobalt blue hue detailing the fuzzy laces and rubber sole.Taking the silhouette of the Vans Classic, the Vans x Tierra Whack Half Cab is a fusion of bold candy-like shades with the brand’s signature checkerboard pattern. Green fuzzy laces loop around eyelets reading “Weird Hype and Creative Kids” over alternating blue and green sockliners.
