Call it Shrimp Dreams!
SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood Co., the nation’s leading specialty frozen seafood brand, has launched its first sneaker sweepstakes in the form of its one-of-a-kind, shrimp-themed basketball shoe, “SeaKicks.” Only two pairs of the delicious hi-tops (a not-so-subtle nod to Nike Air Force 1s) will be given away to two shrimp-loving, sneaker fans via an Instagram promotion.
Why do shrimp and sneakers go together like shrimp and cocktail sauce, you ask? Kristen Beadon, director of marketing for SeaPak, says it all stemmed from a popular social media promotion the company did last August to celebrate the NBA resuming its season. “We designed a pair of basketball shoes with shrimp on it as a humorous, graphical, organic post, but we received some great responses from people who actually wanted them,” she says. “So, when March Madness came back around, we wanted to dial up the engagement and take the execution as far as we could.”
The four designs feature elements of SeaPak’s brand in various ways, ranging from color to pattern and, of course, the shrimp icons. “We also pulled in inspiration from fashion and pop-culture trends to create four uniquely, ‘ownable’ shoe designs,” Beadon says. “Beyond that, we really wanted to make a shoe we’d be proud to wear ourselves.”
Beadon says one of the goals of the giveaway is for SeaPak to cast its net beyond its existing customer base. And, if all goes to plan, the company might dip its toe again into sneakerhead-infested waters. “We’re always looking for fun ways to connect and have fun with seafood fans,” she says. “If the Internet loves these sneakers as much as we do, we certainly hope so.”
