Mizuno Launches Three-Part “Noh Men” Footwear Pack

Mizuno has launched a trio of its cardinal silhouettes, the Contender S, Sky Medal, and Wave Rider 10 inspired by three Japanese Noh masks used for classical dance-drama performances during the 14th century. Each mask is sculpted from a single piece of sturdy wood and painted with natural pigments in a manner that simulates facial expressions, capturing the audience’s imagination.Launched in 2007 to celebrate 10 years of the Wave Rider series, Tuan Lee’s Wave Rider 10 pairs a open-mesh base with a swirling array of perforated suede panels in retro styling. Taking inspiration from the oldest Okina mask, the pairs are found in “Opal Grey” and cream hues with the Kanji word “翁” representing wisdom fixed on the heel window.Contender S, fitted with the original impact-to-response H2 build found in golf balls, is inspired by the fox-faced Kitsune mask with corresponding “狐”  text on the heel. Last but not least in the trio is the classic 1993 Sky Medal sneaker first seen at Barcelona’s ’92 Olympic Games. Combining moulded EVA tooling with Transtab cushioning, the pairs come in “Black Oyster” and “Ketchup” hues referencing Tengu masks which are said to ward off evil spirits.Take a closer look at the Mizuno “Noh Men” Pack above. Pairs in the series are set to release at a recommended retail price of between £110 GBP and £145 GBP (approximately $135 and $145 USD) via Mizuno and select retailers on March 31.Elsewhere in footwear, Mr. Bailey previews another adidas Originals “OZLUCENT” sneaker concept.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
