Hanon Is Closing Its Flagship Store in Aberdeen, Scotland

The independent retailer Hanon has announced that it will be closing its flagship store in Aberdeen, Scotland. Its brick-and-mortar location has been known as Hanon since 1993 — prior to this, brothers Brian and Edward Toft were shifting clothes and sneakers out of their parent’s home in the 1980s, before opening their first boutique, Streethreds, in Elgin. For the last 30 years, Hanon has served customers far and wide with the greatest adidas drops, IYKYK brands like Noon Goons, and essentials from the likes of Tommy Jeans. It has also been a prolific collaborative powerhouse, working with the likes of Padmore & Barnes, Karhu, UMBRO, Mizuno, and adidas Consortium. The news of Hanon shutting its doors follows the closure of Oi Polloi, the Manchester-based store that was acquired by the JD group in 2021.Per Hanon, the closure comes from “increased economic pressures exasperated by the pandemic and a shifting retail landscape, [which] has meant that conditions are at a point where the shop is no longer viable.”Hanon’s last day of trading will be June 10, and it will be operating as an online-only business from this point onwards.
