Every spring as the first major championship in golf approaches footwear brands gear up to release their celebratory designs. It’s become a tradition just as much as the tournament itself. And although ASICS has a number of golf specific silhouettes that are worn by players like Hideki Matsuyama — a past winner of the tournament — this year the brand is dressing up one of its all-time favorite runners, the GEL-LYTE III, in a fairway-ready uniform.Functionally, the kicks are a by-the-books rendition of the OG pair with the split tongue, GEL midsole and authentic outsole molding. The materials, textures and colors used throughout the upper, sockliner and midsole are where the shoes begin to pay homage to the 18 hole sport. With a mostly green construction through the upper, a smooth pigskin nubuck is used for the underlays to represent greens and fairways, while the overlays are coated with a longer suede to represent rough. Then, paying homage to classic flag pins, accents of yellow pop against the see of green for the collar, eyelets and window accents. Finally, the pearly white midsole is meant to match with sandy bunkers.Anyone looking to cop a pair can find the kicks dropping on April 6 for a retail price of $140 USD on ASICS’ website.Elsewhere in golf, Jordan Brand has revealed its latest take on the AJ1 Low G.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
