Vans will always be home to classic staple silhouettes and colorways such as the black and white Old Skools, Sk8-His and Eras or the traditional white and black checkerboard Slip-Ons, but another aspect of the brand that makes it successful every year is its collaborative projects. The Anaheim-based skate brand recently unveiled a trio of Sk8-His with Awake NY, and now it’s slated to extend its Fall streak via a Skate Sid “Flicks of Fury” collaboration with Shanghai’s Avenue & Son imprint. For this team-up, the premier Chinese skate label pulled inspiration from its hometown as well as old school kung fu films that its founders Stephen Khou, Jeremy Hu, Boss Xie and Dan Leung grew up watching. Uppers are predominantly treated with perforated white leathers that make up the lateral and medial sides as well as the toe boxes. Bright orange accents then follow suit and dress up the interior liners, Vans insignias on the quarters and the midsoles. Moreover, the laces are supplied with reflective hits and the heels are adorned with embroidered A&S hits and black and white checkered banners. Rounding off its design are white waffle soles that are ornamented with Chinese characters.“Skating in the Vans x Avenue & Son Skate Sid is like having a black belt in every form of martial art that exists”, says Stephen Khou, co-owner of Avenue & Son. “You truly become; one with the board.”The Avenue & Son x Vans Skate Sid “Flicks of Fury” is dropping in select retailers in China on October 23.On the hunt for more sneaker news?
