The sportswear giant ASICS and fellow Japanese label Okayama Denim (a purveyor in Selvege amongst other grades of denim) have a long-standing partnership that’s produced classic sneakers such as GEL-LYTE III OG in various denim takes since 2015, and now the partnership has been reborn with a new take on the aforementioned sneaker, dubbed “White Denim.”Exclusively dropping with atmos Tokyo, the ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG “White Denim” continues on last year’s celebration of the silhouettes’ 30th anniversary with a shoe that pays homage to the true shapes, sizes, and styles of the 1990s. With this in mind, the pair you see above is a faithful interpretation of the pairs that came before it, with each panel being like-for-like to those of the ’90s.Steering away from traditional indigo and black denim tones, ASICS now utilizes a soft ivory shade all over the sneaker for a timeless look. Denim has been used for the base of the shoe and appears to decorate the toe box, mid-panel, tongue, and heel, while matching leather constructs the toe bumper and heel for structure, and also the ASICS branding on the mid-panel so that it stands out against the denim.Bringing this all together is the sock liner and laces that are also finished in the same creamy-white shade. Rounding out the pair is a selection of contrasting leather elements, with ASICS’ branding gracing the tongue, GEL-LYTE tabs adorning the lateral rear-quarter, and GEL branding on the heel tab, all appearing in brown leather with red lettering. The ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG “White Denim” costs ¥14,300 JPY (approx. $130 USD) and can be bought via a raffle exclusively on atmos Tokyo’s website.
