If you ask adidas Originals, the 1980s and are happening all over again. Following on from the just-revealed closer look at its upcoming nostalgia-packed collaboration with Gucci, the Three Stripes continues to offer in-house goods that further its ’80s and ’90s aesthetic, such as the return of the ZX 8000 and ZX 9000.However, the sneakers you see above aren’t just any old adidas ZX shoes. The ZX 8000 “Germany” and ZX 9000 “Citrus” are two of their respective silhouettes’ most sought-after colorways, and now they’re set for a return.Kicking off with the ZX 8000, you’ll find a palette of “Bright Yellow/Core Black/Red” that takes over a textile, mesh, and suede composition that honors a fan-favorite colorway that was first released in 1998. Here, the ZX 8000’s chunky retro shapes are highlighted in bold and vibrant shades, while the yellow is almost metallic gold as it works the synthetic ribbed uppers. Plenty of OG elements remain, from the Torsion bar to a yellow sole unit, Trefoil branding all over, a signature heel counter and more.Likewise, the ZX 9000 in “Pulse Yellow/Ash Silver/Acid Mint” also riffs off a classic colorway. This time around, the archival grail for ZX heads returns with glow-in-the-dark details, notably on the heel counter and TPU eyelet. Elsewhere, retro branding is mixed with signature tooling for an authentic look and feel, while a dashing touch of purple livens things up even more.adidas Originals is set to release both pairs via its CONFIRMED app on May 13 at 9 a.m. BST (4 a.m. EST).
